During flu outbreaks of a serious level the hospital that serves the people here takes fridge lorries into its mortuary carpark for the dead bodies because the mortuary can't always cope with the number of dead to be held. During Covid no fridge lorries were needed. Numbers of Covid deaths were reported in the local press each week. The numbers could be counted on one hand, the ages were consistently over 80s and in many cases over 90 there being a high number of nonagenarians in this county, and the occasional younger one was noted as having underlying health issues.
The country was held to ransom by the SAGE member academics of Imperial College. Neil Ferguson had once predicted the millions who would die from mad cow disease. That never happened. He was one of the unelected academics on this committee who "advised" the government. Unelected. Decision making was put in their hands and Johnson was too weak or too alone to stand up to them. The country were misled by academics and Johnson proved to be a weak prime minister who did not come up to the level of leadership that I expected of him. I emailed the PM each week basically to tell him where he and his cabinet were going wrong. I always got the standard reply that he was too busy to respond. That did not stop me as my rage increased week on week. He fell lower and lower in leadership qualities until we seemed to be governed by a ludicrous band of unjoined up thinkers that did not possess one ounce of common sense between them.
On the better side of give and take, when all else had been taken away from the workforce like their job and their pay packet, they were given furlough payments in place thereof. Schools were given lunch money in addition to normal lunch payments for provision of extra school meals. At least two teachers in Norwich exploited this and took the money for themselves. They are now in prison.
