220 children diagnosed with gender incongruence will be given the drugs. The Health Secretary said he was satisfied with the project and establishing evidence is the best way to proceed. Study leader Professor Emily Simonoff said that there is no lower age limit for children who can join the trial. She said it is not considered legal or ethical to aribitrarily exclude an individual from research on the basis of age. She said that the main risks are a decrease in bone mineral density and there are theoretical risks to fertility and sexual development and brain development but said these are not established. The trial has been allocated £10.7M and is known as PATHWAYS which stands for Puberty Suppression And Transitional Healthcare with Adaptive Youth Services. 220 under 16s will take drugs for 2 years, half will start immediately and the rest will wait a year and their health will then be compared.

I really distrust these types of drug trials. How much damage will be done to young people as a result of insufficient testing and controls?
ReplyDeleteA cross-party committee is against the trial and if their words fail then campaigners will ask for a judicial review. One campaigner was given puberty blockers as a five year old and underwent irreversible changes and as an adult says that the whole idea put forward by the Tavistock Clinic that she wanted to be a boy was mistaken and she actually identifies as a girl who is gay. The children will be used as human guinea pigs.

ReplyDeleteI have a weird view of doctors since Covid when they, along with the academics of Univ. of London medical departments such as Neil Ferguson, began to act as if they were Gods which developed into control depriving us of appointments which, incidentally, many surgeries round here, notably one where many of my neighbours go, still operate a service on not seeing patients. . I noticed last night when watching a programme about Josef Mengele that doctors were queuing up to join the SS and Mengele was joined by many others in his "medical" research testing on human guinea pigs. The medical trial will take place under the audit of Kings College, London. No surprise there then.

ReplyDeleteI think the statement the professor made re, the ethics of arbitrarily excluding someone through age was the pits. What can be the good moral principle behind putting children in a drug trial where the outcomes are not known and the trial is going to alter the body's chemistry and a review last year concluded that the drugs did not have enough proven evidence that they were safe? I imagine that Jesus has given up on the human race.
